TRANSCENDING LABELS:

THE POWER OF
CONNECTING WITH
THE SPECIAL NEEDS
AND DISABLED
COMMUNITIES

By MITCH STEVENS

This book is a collection of what has been on my heart to share for years; the immeasurable value of connecting with the special needs and disabled communities.

There just so happen to be hints of ‘self-help’ suggestions in there, too. A bit of it is from my perspective, but a large portion comes from conversations with some of the best human beings that I have ever met.

Use this as a guide for how to treat individuals with special needs and/or disabilities in your community. Take a suggestion from one of the application sections if you feel so inclined. Or, simply enjoy some heartwarming accounts of what it means to truly see beyond disabilities.

“This book helped open up my eyes to the lives of those with special needs and disabilities. As someone who does not have special needs, and someone who really doesn’t know that many people with disabilities it was a great perspective. It made me gain a deeper understanding of what life is like for those with special needs and their families. It also helped me realize that there is so much that I can do and get involved with to bring more love and connection to those that might not get that in there day to day. People with special needs are a big part of the community, and this book helps to realize that it is such a blessing to have those in your life.”

MAYBE NEXT YEAR

A CINCINNATIAN’S TRAGIC ACCOUNTS OF THE MOST PAINFUL MOMENTS FOR SPORTS FANS OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS

By MITCH STEVENS

“Maybe Next Year” is as thorough an account of being a diehard fan of loser sports teams as I could put together. It is certainly a passion project of mine, given that the better part of my 27 years have consisted of watching Cincinnati teams fail miserably. This book is meant to be a fun, light-hearted depiction of what it means to suffer through painful seasons and flat-out brutal losses with the teams you hold closest to your heart. Included in the book are what I feel are the most heartbreaking losses for 20 of America’s fan bases, my “Top 5 Most Miserable Combos in Sports Fandom,” and the Top 5 losses specifically for Cincinnati fans in my lifetime (1994-Present). My number one goal is that I have completed the largest example of reverse psychology that the sports world has ever seen, and that 2021 will be the year that a Cincinnati team finally gets it done. However, if the book simply provides some type of therapeutic value to the average sports fan, then I have done my job. Laugh with me or at me, shed a few tears for your team if you must, but hopefully you enjoy.

“One of those books I couldn’t put down once I started reading. Every sports fan can find a section (or twelve) that will spark a smile, tears, or memory from history that is far more recent than you think. Mitch Stevens does an incredible job of making the reader feel like they are in the bar with him, laughing and crying through the nostalgia that makes being a fan fun. Everyone who is not a Steelers (not like they could read it anyway) fan should find themselves a copy ASAP.”

“What a great read! Not only does Mitch list his local teams that has disappointed him in his 27 years, but he also lists other cities sports teams that have met the same fate as Cincinnati teams. Its amazing the research that was done to provide the reader the feeling they were witnessing the game in real time! This book is definitely a book for any sports nut! Congratulations Mitch and thanks for bringing back some heartbreaking memories of the last 30 years!”

“Whether you have felt the pain of your team losing time and time again yourself or you know someone who continues to go through the tragedy of rooting for the losing teams, Maybe Next Year hits home for all. The analogies, stories, and personal accounts that Mitch shares in his book are both entertaining and full of nostalgia. Would recommend to any and all sports fans!”
